What Is Reverse DNS Lookup?
Reverse DNS lookup (also called reverse DNS resolution or rDNS) is the process of finding the hostname associated with an IP address. While a standard DNS lookup converts a domain name into an IP address, a reverse lookup does the opposite — it takes an IP and finds its hostname. This is useful for identifying servers, verifying email sources, and investigating network traffic. Not all IP addresses have associated hostnames, so reverse DNS lookups may return "not found" for some IPs.
